Car insurance prices rises by age unveiled as older drivers over 65 learn fate

Older drivers above the age of 65 have experienced only the third-highest car insurance price rise over the past year, according to data from Quotezone.

Elderly motorists saw prices rise between April 2023 and April 2024 but the jump was still slower than experienced by many younger drivers.

According to Quotezone, average annual car insurance policies for those above the age of 65 have jumped from £369.92 last April to £488.10.

Although a sizeable rise for some in this age range with half likely to be on pensions, the increase is by no means the highest across the country.

Analysis of the figures from Express.co.uk found that this equated to a 31.95 percent increase over the past 12 months, down on increases paid by those aged 17-34.

The youngest drivers on the road between the ages of 17 and 24 were the most affected with fees jumping by a staggering 37.63 percent.

Costs are way above the annual average with fees rising from £1,397.93 in April 2023 to stand at an eye-watering £1,924.03.

Costs almost broke the £2,000 barrier in March with rates standing at a blistering £1,993.41 before a gradual drop by the end of April.

Motorists 25-34 were the next most affected age range with analysis showing fees were up 32.67 percent.

Drivers in this age range were paying £702.93 last year but will now face average fees of £932.57 when they come to renew their policy.

However, the data shows that older drivers saw bigger jumps than middle-aged motorists.

Drivers between the ages of 35 and 44 paid £536.27 in April 2023 but now face annual costs of £705.13 in a 31.49 percent rise.

Meanwhile, motorists aged 45-64 have seen the smallest increase with rates up by just 27.10 percent over the last year.

Fees were £381.92 12 months ago but are now just £485.43 which amounts to an almost £100 leap.

However, the annual average is the lowest of any demographic in the UK making this the most affordable cover in the country.
