Revenge is a dish best served sexy — just ask Gayle King, who’s getting the last laugh at the man who cheated on her with a friend.
The Emmy Award-winning TV journalist, who graces the cover of the 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue at the age of 69, wants her ex-husband to know what he’s missing out on.
While walking the red carpet at the issue’s launch party on Thursday, the proud grandmother said being on the cover was “mind-blowing.”
But she also wondered what her one-time husband, former Connecticut Assistant Attorney General William G. Bumpus, thinks of her showing the world what she’s working with.
“I wonder what my ex-husband is saying,” she quipped to ET, then added: “I’m gonna send him a copy.”
King and Bumpus were married from 1982 to 1993. The former pair share two kids — Kirby, 38, and William Jr, 37.
In 2006, King — the best friend and confidant of Oprah Winfrey — publicly accused Bumpus of cheating on her in 1990 with a close friend, though said she had since healed.
But when asked “Which living person do you most despise?” in a 2016 Vanity Fair profile, King said: “I’m not a huge fan of the woman I caught naked with my now ex-husband on June 24, 1990, at 9:16 p.m. — but I don’t remember the details.”
Bumpus swiftly released a mea culpa following the article’s publishing.
“I have been haunted with this life-altering choice. Though I have dealt with this privately, I publicly apologize for the major transgression that dramatically changed all of our lives,” his said in a statement at the time. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for Gayle and how she handled herself with grace.”
