Aldi hits out at 'overpriced' Cadbury's favourite — leaving shoppers in stitches

Gone are the days when a quid could get you a treasure trove of sweets from your corner shop, and nothing riles up Brits quite like the soaring cost of a Cadbury’s Freddo.

Once a mere 10p back in the early noughties, this beloved chocolate amphibian now demands a whopping 25p.

Aldi, ever the hero for the budget-conscious, has swooped in with their own version Deeno the Dinosaur. These dino-themed delights are a steal at £1.99 for a pack of ten, earning applause from thrifty shoppers across social media platforms.

Yet, a faux pas occurred when one customer dared to compare Deeno to Freddo, innocently inquiring about a caramel variant akin to Freddo’s own.

Michelle Hodge took to Twitter with her request: “I absolutely love these little Deeno bars. Do you think you may bring out a caramel like that other brand that’s a frog? 10 bars for £1.99 BARGAIN you’d only get 8 frogs.”

Aldi’s response was nothing short of cheeky, as they clapped back: “Don’t ever compare us to that overpriced amphibian again.”

This exchange tickled many Aldi patrons, prompting declarations of allegiance to the discount dinos over their pricier froggy counterparts.

In a testament to the chocolate bar, one individual declared: “This is an attack on the Finest Chocolate Bar Ever Made. I shall buy a pack later and see if they compare..”

Another chimed in with their preference: “Nah but caramel Deeno is a great shout,” while a third reminisced about familiar treats: “Freddos after watching Jurassic Park.”

Regrettably, the new confection isn’t available in all stores, leading one user to claim: “These are a myth…never seen them and look every time I go in…” Responding to the comment, Aldi expressed sympathy: “Sorry but, they’re not available in all stores. Where about are you and we’ll pass it along? “.

Cadbury’s has yet to respond to requests for comment.
