WASPI chief unleashes five-word ultimatum to No10 over DWP compensation row

“There has to be a balance between today’s taxpayers and yesterday’s victims, but that goes for all the issues that the Government has to solve.

“They can’t just get it catastrophically wrong and walk away. We have MPs from all parties that are very supportive.”

Ms Madden appeared before the Work and Pensions Committee this week to set out a plan for compensation for the 3.8 million women affected.

A backbench debate is due to take place next week, on May 16. Ms Madden said the campaigners will be keeping a close eye on proceedings.

She said: “We don’t know exactly the time yet, we understand it’s going to be in the afternoon, it’s either 12.30pm or 2.30pm, but it hasn’t been scheduled yet.

“The difficulty with it being a backbench business debate is that it can be overridden by Government business, so it’s difficult to plan things around.

“We think many women will want to go to Parliament and listen to it, so we’re still think about what to do. Once it’s properly on the order paper, we’ll make a decision about that.”

The campaign boss said some of the WASPI members will likely sit in the public gallery to watch the debate.

The WASPI campaigners are also meeting with the APPG next week to go over the details of the PHSO report in more depth.
