Cleaning air fryers takes five minutes ‘without scrubbing’ when you use one kitchen item

Air fryers need to be cleaned with proper care to increase their longevity, just like with any other kitchen appliance.

Unlike cleaning your oven or cleaning your microwaves, it is essential to clean an air fryer after every use, rather than just deep cleaning periodically.

However, many people find that they always have to scrub an air fryer to get it clean, but there is another way – dishwasher tablets.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Ruth Hankey asked whether dishwasher tables work on dirty air fryers.

She wrote: “Has anyone put a dishwasher tablet in their air fryer baskets, and left it to soak? Does the hack actually work?”

Many group members in the comments claimed that they use this hack “all the time” and it allows you to get your air fryer clean in “five minutes” with no need to scrub.

Charlotte Robinson wrote: “I do it all the time with hot water leave to soak and wash next morning.”

Michelle McKenzie commented: “I have and yes it does work. It’s also good for lots of burnt-on food. Add a dishwasher tablet to the basket. Five minutes without scrubbing required.”

Jaqueline Mackie said: “I use a dishwater tablet in it with boiled water. Pour out after five minutes before giving it a rinse.”

These small, concentrated blocks are perfect for breaking down tough marks, lifting stains, and deodorising drains without the need for an expansive cleaning product collection.

Dishwasher tablets have been designed to help tackle the toughest of food and grease stains, so it’s no surprise they work on air fryers too.

Other Mrs Hinch fans recommended that Ruth use washing-up liquid instead. Rebecca Bacon wrote: “You don’t need to. Just soak in Fairy Liquid [washing up liquid] after use then rinse.”

Louise Bishop said: “They’re non-stick so after every use, use a bit of washing up liquid and hot water. Leave to soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Pour out and rinse with water.”

Amanda Elizabeth commented: “Just wash with washing up liquid and hot water in the sink. It’s clean within seconds using a sponge and no faffing around, same with silicone liners.”
