Multiple crew members were injured in an accident on the Atlanta set of an Eddie Murphy movie, according to reports.
The incident occurred during rehearsal of an action scene for “The Pickup” last Saturday, Deadline confirmed Tuesday.
“On April 20, an accident occurred on the set of ‘The Pickup’ during a rehearsed 2nd unit action sequence. Unfortunately, the sequence did not go as planned and several members of the crew were injured as a result,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement. “We are still in the process of gathering facts on what happened and why, but first and foremost our thoughts are with those who are recovering.”
“The well-being of the entire crew and cast is our first priority, and we will continue to insist on the highest industry standards of safety while filming. All safety precautions were reviewed prior to and monitored during the shoot.”
The Associated Press reported two crew members were hospitalized with injuries ranging from bruises to broken bones after a truck “locked up” and crashed into a car. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
“It was a completely freak accident,” an anonymous person working on the film told the AP. “It wasn’t even a complicated or dangerous stunt.”
In “The Pickup,” described as a heist flick, Murphy leads a cast that includes Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer, Andrew Dice Clay and Eva Longoria. None were on set at the time of the accident, according to the AP.
IATSE, the union which represents crew members, said it had started an investigation into the accident, Variety reported.
The incident comes nearly three months after a crew member died in an accident on the set of Marvel’s “Wonder Man” series.
