Israel is bracing for a huge Iranian attack on Friday, with officials in both Israel and the US fearing missiles could be fired within hours.
This comes as Iran vowed a response to a strike on the country’s consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus, which saw two of Tehran’s military leaders killed.
Two US officials told CBS News that a major Iranian attack is expected soon with over 100 drones and missiles fired at military targets.
Iran has not yet outlined how or when it will respond. The rising tensions had left many concerned that a wider war in the Middle East could be on the horizon.
On Thursday, Iran reportedly suspended all air traffic to carry out military drills, leading many to believe Iran’s strike could come soon.
This came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that he is preparing for threats outside of Gaza, hinting that he is readying his forces for confrontation with Iran.
Netanyahu said: “We are in challenging times. We are in the middle of the war in Gaza that continues at full force, at the same time we continue our nonstop efforts to return our hostages.
“But we are also preparing for scenarios of challenges from other arenas. We established a simple principle – Whoever hurts us, we will hurt them.
“We are prepared to meet all of the security needs of the State of Israel, both defensively and offensively.”
