Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer unveils simple fix for ‘dead’ classic cars over winter

Wheeler Dealers host Mike Brewer has unveiled how classic car owners can fix “dead” cars as they dust down their historic vehicles ahead of the summer.

The TV host revealed a possible solution after admitting his classic Porsche 912 wouldn’t start after being stored away during the winter.

Mike has called on owners to consider installing new batteries which are likely to have run out of charge if cars have not been used since last Autumn.

Mike suggested the tip and admitted he had to work on his own classic vehicles while speaking on social media site X.

He explained: “Me and Stevie at One Automotive, We’ve been getting the fleet or some of the fleet ready for the summer period.

Wheeler Dealers TV star Mike Brewer has issued a simple tip to all classic car owners as many begin dusting down their cars for 2024.

“The 912 is fired up. The battery went flat through the winter. Although it had a new battery we are going to have to put another new battery in it because it is dead, dead.”

BookMyGarage, the leading comparison site for vehicle servicing and repairs, has warned battery strength will diminish over time regardless of whether it is regularly topped up.

They warn batteries are only built to last between three and five years meaning they could be replaced a few times under an ownership.

The group suggests replacing a new battery shouldn’t be too expensive with the part likely to cost up to £100 depending on the vehicle.

Ahead of last winter, Mike warned Express.co.uk that classic car owners needed to keep their vehicles maintained over winter.

He said: “Lots of people will take their classic cars and tuck them away in the garage and forget about them until the spring.

“You should regularly go down to your car once a month and sit in it and start it up and just let the engine get up to temperature and let it cool down again.”

In his latest video, Mike admitted he was not just working on fixing his classic Porsche 912 with many of his other historic models needing his attention ahead of the summer.

He added: “The Mini fired up into life and Steve said it’s the most hilarious thing he has ever driven in his life because I followed him back in it.

“The MGA we are going to ship that car to Florida so I can use it in the sunshine. So that is going to go back to where it began. That fired up back into life.

“A good day with the Wheeler Dealers just getting cars prepared. Oh, we got the red 911 started as well.”
