Off-duty NYPD cop charged in Brooklyn domestic violence assault

An off-duty Brooklyn cop was released after he was accused of punching his wife and yanking her hair.

Avijit Boiragee, 33, who’s assigned to the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge, was arrested on assault, attempted assault and harassment charges early Sunday.

According to a criminal complaint, he punched his wife in the biceps, shoved her and pulled her hair in their Sheepshead Bay home just before 3:30 a.m.

Boiragee pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Sunday. His case was transferred to a “problem-solving” alternative court program and he’s due back in court May 9.

He joined the NYPD in February 2021. His lawyer did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment Monday.
