Queens teen driver charged with manslaughter for parkway crash that killed sister, friend

A 19-year-old Queens driver is facing manslaughter charges for crashing into a tree off a Long Island parkway, killing his sister and a second young woman while under the influence of drugs, police said Tuesday.

Jaden Dsouza was speeding while recklessly zipping in and out of lanes on the eastbound Southern State Parkway in Oyster Bay at about 11 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his black 2016 Dodge Dart, veered off the road and slammed into a tree near the shoulder, cops said.

Dsouza’s older sister Haily Dsouza, 21, and friend Crystal Alba-Figueroa, 23, were both killed in the back seat, New York State Troopers said.

Alba-Figueroa, cops said, was thrown from the car upon impact. Haily was found crushed inside the mangled vehicle.

Dsouza, of College Point, and his front-seat passenger Anthonie Marte, 23, of East Elmhurst, were rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

“The troopers came upon a pretty horrific scene given the damage and the two deceased,” New York State Police Capt. Vincent Augeri told PIX11. “We do suspect that he was under the influence or that marijuana played a role in this vehicle collision.”

Troopers charged Dsouza with manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

His arraignment in Nassau County Criminal Court is pending while he recovers at the hospital.
