British woman and her fiance found dead in Vietnam holiday villa

A British woman and her fiance were found dead in separate rooms while staying at the complex in the central Quang Nam province of Vietnam on Boxing Day.

Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Els Quinton, 36, were staying at a tourist villa in Hội An where they were found by staff and police officers at 11.18am on Boxing Day.

Both victims had registered for long-term temporary residence at the place they were found since 4 July last year.

Ms Otteson’s body was discovered on her bed on the first floor of the complex in room 101, while Mr Quinton was found in another room in the same position.

Upon a forensic examination, no signs of physical trauma or violence were found, alongside no evidence of a break-in, VnExpress reports.

A Quang Nam Provincial Police spokesman said: “There were no signs of ransacking at the scene. The victims’ belongings and phones were untouched.”

Several used alcohol bottles were found at the scene, according to the investigators.

Ms Otteson was a social media marketing manager, while Mr Quinton was a barista. The Briton had also previously worked in Dubai.

A spokesperson for the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said on Thursday: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Writing on the social media platform X, Dayle Visser, a friend of Quinton: “Rest in peace my brother. Thank you for always being the fierce friend you were.

You saved me many a time. You were real and lived life harder than most people could ever dream of. I love you and I will always miss you.”
