A 75-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the deadly stabbing of an 81-year-old man in Southern New Jersey, authorities said Monday.
Eileen Bright was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Gary Johnson — who’s described by local media as her “longtime” boyfriend.
She also faces two counts of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.
Bright is accused of fatally stabbing Johnson at a home they shared in Mays Landing, just west of Atlantic City, officials said.
The incident occurred early Sunday evening. Officers with the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to a 911 call just after 5:30 p.m. with reports of a possible homicide at a home on Lewis Drive.
Upon arrival, responding officers located a man with “multiple wounds to his head and body,” authorities said.
The victim, later identified as Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the morgue by the South Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The cause and manner of death have been determined to be blunt force trauma from stab wounds, WTXF-TV reported.
Bright was arrested at home on Sunday and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending her first court appearance.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Hamilton Township police and obtained by NJ.com, Bright has admitted to the killing.
The report also said officers found a knife inside the residence.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning.
