A 64-year-old scooter driver not wearing a helmet was in critical condition Friday after he was hit by a car in Manhattan.
The driver of the gas-powered scooter was heading north on 10th Ave. through Chelsea when the driver of a grey Acura sedan turning left onto W. 20th St. struck him around 2:58 p.m., cops said.
Medics rushed the scooter driver to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, said police.
“I heard boom and I ran over,” said a 37-year-old parking lot attendant who gave his name as Diego. “He was laid out on the floor, face up. His scooter was on its side. he wasn’t moving.”
“No helmet,” Diego added. “It’s very sad, man. Very sad. People stopped and were trying to help him, but he wasn’t moving.”
The 48-year-old woman driving the Acura stayed at the scene, police said, and there were no arrests.
