Three Jersey City gang members were convicted Wednesday of three separate murders in 2021 and 2022, which authorities say were part of a killing spree targeting a rival gang.
Myron Williams, 31; Khalil Kelley, 25, and Roger Pickett, 24, were all part of a street gang associated with the Marion Gardens housing complex, federal investigators said.
They were among 11 Marion Gardens gang members charged in January 2024 with multiple crimes, including racketeering conspiracy and drug trafficking. While the other eight pleaded guilty, Williams, Kelley and Pickett took their cases to trial.
“The defendants in this matter intentionally disregarded human life and instilled fear in neighborhoods across Jersey City,” Hudson County prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Kelley, a Jersey City resident, lured rival gang member Kaheem Taylor outside of his home on March 29, 2021, along with other Marion Gardens gang members, according to investigators. When Taylor opened the door, Kelley and another gang member shot him dead. Pickett and Williams were part of the getaway team, the feds said.
Williams, Pickett and another gangster used a similar plot to kill 24-year-old Rashaun Bell on Nov. 20, 2021, according to the feds. Williams was one of the shooters who killed Bell when he opened his door, cops said.
The third murder was part of a drug deal gone wrong, in which Marion Gardens gang members allegedly attempted to rob a narcotics supplier on Nov. 1, 2022. In that incident, Pickett fatally shot 23-year-old Jovahn Horne during a struggle.
Sentencing for the three men is scheduled for April 25, 2025.
