Two suspects tossed more than $50,000 from a black BMW while fleeing from troopers in Plainfield, Conn., authorities said.
The incident unfolded Monday just after 11 a.m. Connecticut State Police responded to the area after reports of a man seen “tampering with an ATM and looking into parked cars” at a service plaza off Interstate 395.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they saw “a male fleeing across the highway to a black BMW sport utility vehicle with Pennsylvania plates in the southbound service plaza,” officials said, according to local television station WFSB.
The BMW then sped away, going southbound on I-395.

As the car took off, a person inside the vehicle tossed a “backpack containing approximately $52,000 in $20 bills, a mobile hotspot, and an iPhone” from the speeding vehicle, officials said.
Further investigation revealed the same vehicle had been seen in the area earlier in the day. Surveillance footage also shows two men entering the Exxon station at different times, according to WTNH.
One of them, who was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and tan pants, “used an electronic device to remove money from a Citibank ATM,” troopers said. “His accomplice wore a white Nike short-sleeve shirt and tan pants. Both men had on white shoes, black caps, a tan waist bag, and sunglasses.”
No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
