15-year-old boy busted for fatally shooting man in Brooklyn was looking to rob weed, victim’s pal says

The 15-year-old boy arrested for gunning down a man outside his friend’s Brooklyn home  was trying to muscle him for marijuana, the victim’s pal told the Daily News.

The young suspect was cuffed for fatally shooting 54-year-old Darryl McMillan on Monroe St. near Patchen Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to police.

A friend of McMillan’s told the Daily News he’d walked inside his Monroe St. building when he heard the gunman demand weed and then fired three shots.

“It was a stickup,” said the friend. “He asked [the victim] for weed. He said, ‘Where the f—ing weed? Where the weed at?’”

After the sound of gunfire settled, McMillan uttered his final words, his friend said.

“I ain’t got no weed, why you shoot me?” McMillan said, according to his friend.

The friend rushed outside to find McMillan gasping for air and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest, he said.

“I was talking to him. He was gasping for breath. I knew him for 20 years. He was a good guy, man,” said the friend, who refused to provide his name.

McMillan was in Brooklyn staying at his friend’s apartment in the wake of a construction accident that left him unable to work or afford rent at his New Jersey home, his friend said.

“He was trying to get paid for his job. He hurt his back messing with plexiglass. … He got put out of his building, so he came to stay with me,” the friend explained.

Medics rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, where he died.
