10-year-old guitarist wows festival crowd with Guns 'n' Roses classic

A 10-year-old schoolboy stunned thousands of music fan festivals when he climbed on stage to play guitar – and nailed one of the most famous rock songs of all time.

Jake Collinson was in the audience watching the RJP band – starring Rick Parfitt Junior, the son of late Status Quo star Rick – at the Painshill festival in Cobham, Surrey on Wednesday night.

Jake, who attended the show with his parents, had made a homemade sign asking “Let Me Play Guitar With You.”

Rick spotted the sign mid-set and read it out before telling the audience: “That’s a bit of a risk.”

But he then asked the eager youngster if he could really play guitar and when the youngster eagerly nodded he was invited on stage in front of the 5,000-strong audience.

The musician, who the following night played the Isle of Wight Festival, quizzed Jake about who his favourite band was and was told Guns ‘N’ Roses and that the song he wanted to play was the worldwide smash Sweet Child of Mine – featuring one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time by legendary axe man Slash

Rick replied: “Are you serious? Oh my God,” as a guitar is brought on stage for Jake to play.”

Clearly worried about what was going to happen next Rick made repeated quips to the audience telling the crowd: “This could either be incredible or……..incredible obviously.”

But seconds later the 10-year-old maestro unleashes the song’s intro and smashed the song out of the park.

Writing on social media the following day Rick, 49, said: “Last night something special happened…a 10 year old kid in the audience kept waving a sign at me saying ‘LET ME PLAY GUITAR WITH YOU’ so you know what…I got him on stage and this happened!…

He added: “Uber-talented 10 year old Jake took to the stage with Rick Parfitt Jnr and the RPJ Band and, well, just WOW!

“What a superstar and what an incredible opportunity for Jake to play alongside such an amazing band.”

On his own Instagram page Jake posted the video adding: “Cant’ believe this happened. Think it went quite well.”
